I'll go with the sheathed sword too, which fits with the story. According to the Bible, one of the disciples, Simon Peter, being armed with a sword, cut off the servant's ear in an attempt to prevent the arrest of Jesus.

Au contraire, Monsieur Moutarde! What proof do you have that JTB is a scam? You may be incredulous, but that is not proof of a scam. Rick Fearon is no scammer, and much of what JTB spoke of has come to pass in "Wacky Watchy World."

Did Watchtower Really Teach That Armageddon Was Coming in 1954?
by Jerome56 inin the march 2025 jw broadcast david splane in his morning worship talk mentioned that "some thought" that armageddon would come 40 years after 1914. such statements are usually meant to shift the blame of their own false predictions on to their members for speculating.
however, i was unable to find anything in print showing that such a thing was indeed taught by the society.
was this really a thing?.

For an organization that condemns divination as "unscriptural" the Watchtower certainly maintains an armamentarium of special dates and special numbers. They may not have promoted 1954 with the vigor they lent to 1975, but they always put their special dates and special numbers on the play-room floor so "the kids" could experiment with combinations and permutations; then The Watchtower would deny responsibility for the wild conclusions the rank and file would come up with.
